The manufacturing of paraformaldehyde in China started in 1970s, by two enterprises in Shanghai. Later, other firms joined in the queue. Small in scale, high in waste, low in quality and competition are prevalent challenges for the producers. Till 1990s, the production capability had been formed. After years of development, China now has become the largest PFA producer around the world, as well as the world’s biggest PFA consumer. Capacity has reached 442,000/t in 2010, up over 10% than that in the end of 2009, which is estimated to take up over 50% of the market share.
