Pittsburgh, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/23/2014 --Product review publication Consumer Reports recently announced a new round of mattress tests, including beds from Costco and other retailers. The popular review magazine revealed they are currently performing new tests as a follow up to their March 2014 bed reviews, but will release the results later this summer.

In response, independent bed blog Mattress Journal also released a detailed report comparing the beds in Consumer Reports’ latest tests with those from their March guide and other brands. The guide, published July 22, is titled “Consumer Reports 2014 Mattress Tests & Review Comparison.”

Although Consumer Reports has not yet revealed the results of their latest tests, they did reveal the brands under evaluation, which include two mattresses from Costco, a bed from the Original Mattress Factory, and an entry-level Sleep Number mattress.

Mattress Journal researched specifications, pricing and consumer review information for these four models. Data is presented alongside seven beds Consumer Reports compared earlier this year and other popular brands that the magazine did not review (including Simmons, Serta, Amerisleep, Denver Mattress and others). In total, 24 mattresses are featured, spanning innerspring, air, memory foam, and latex categories.

The blog groups beds by mattress type, and presents the data in an easy-to-read table format, followed by detailed commentary. Review details come from retailer and brand websites, a third-party review website, and consumer review websites like Viewpoints.

Mattress Journal points out some differences in reviews versus Consumer Reports findings and forecasts potential results for the new tests. The blog also highlights mattresses that offer strong value potential, including highly-reviewed spring and foam brands, both in low and mid-priced categories.
