Robert Stein has been working on this series for several years, starting with a piece based on his photos of Charleston, S.C. followed by a series based on an old stonewall shot in North Carolina. He has recently completed several pieces based on a small piece of a wall in the Wynwood art district in Miami. These works are “Altered” by combining photography, digital painting and acrylic painting with the architectural elements of surface projections and recesses. They are “Altared” by creating a space for the patron to connect with the piece by placing a token on the piece. This has led Robert to this current project to bring historically and spiritually significant walls to this work.

Y Arts, the arts and humanities branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is thrilled to announce Sculptor John Sauve as the 2014 artist-in-residence for the Boll Family YMCA. His work has been critically acclaimed in the New York Times, Art Forum and most recently included in the 2013 Venice Biennale. He will be bringing his creative forces to the Boll Family YMCA working directly with the Y Arts program. Through his residency, Sauve will continue to impact the community through a variety of programs, including The Man in the City project, a citywide sculpture exhibition. The Man in the City International Sculpture Project is comprised of 40 sculptures located on the rooftops throughout the City of Detroit and Windsor.

In his multi-media series, Marko abandons the cliché of idealizing beauties as serene and attainable in accordance with male-dominated fantasies. His series opposes this convention by depicting young females as fierce and independent within their contemporary urban contexts. Each of Marko's fresh-faced girls reveal a strong, unwavering presence, while appearing oppositional to the spectator's gaze. With their confrontational stare and unwelcoming body language, they all undermine the male's observer and remain in control of their sexuality.
