"If you can dream it, you can do it. It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” This quote is by Walt Disney (1901-1966). He was an animator, theme park designer, film director, producer, and business leader. In an age of great challenges, we need to understand Walt Disney’s law of doing the impossible, which involves doing the impossible through following your dream, using your creativity and overcoming impossible situations with imaginative solutions. This was covered recently in our column in the Franklin Press in Franklin, North Carolina. We have been pleased that our column has also been covered on the Walt Disney Newswire, Fantasia Newswire, Roy Disney News, SBWIRE and Topix. We remember Walt Disney’s many successful productions: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and many others. One of his greatest dreams was the opening of Disneyland in 1957 in California. What child or adult has not been impacted by his creativity? He made it seem easy, but behind the scenes were events that would have destroyed those without a determined dream.

DCTV’s Beyond Bullets, a new media campaign to quell America's gun violence epidemic, is nearing launch and has stories to tell that are both heartbreaking and empowering. DCTV has hired six early-career video journalists to embed in high-crime communities in all five boroughs. Over the next eight months, they and an army of other young media-makers will produce an ongoing series of reports exploring the tragedy of gun violence and its solutions. Every three hours, a child is shot and killed on the streets of America. Media is partially responsible, and DCTV believes it can be part of the solution. Using video, social media and grassroots organizing, Beyond Bullets will engage communities in dialogue to discover roots and solutions to America’s gun violence epidemic.

WPBT2 and Florida International University are working together in bringing HIV/ AIDS awareness to South Florida. In 2008 the Associate Dean at Florida International University's School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) Allan Richards and two journalism students Jillian Simms and Tiffany Parkes traveled to South Africa and discovered how one the hardest hit regions in the world was dealing with the HIV/ AIDS epidemic. Once back in South Florida, Richards produced a documentary titled, Lessons from South Africa. The documentary contrasts South Africa’s and South Florida’s method of dealing with HIV/ AIDS awareness, which Richards noted was sharply different. Richards approached FIU colleague Kate MacMillin to work on this project. MacMillin produced a web documentary The Stigma Stops with Me, which portrays the life of Damaries Cruz a woman infected with HIV.
