According to Economic Aspects of Pacific Northwest Soil Erosion Research, the nature of runoff, soil loss, and precipitation in frozen soil differs greatly in the Pacific Northwest than in other parts of the country, due in large part to the maritime climate. In July 2002, The Edward P. Bass Distinguished Visiting Environmental Scholars Program was created to bring premier scholars to Yale for an extended period of time.
