Two Republicans make it to the top three spots in the 79th State Assembly race. Mary England came in a close second with 29% of the vote and Matt Mendoza came in third with 13% of the vote. This must have been rather surprising to Local Political Analyst John Dadian, who was quoted in a May 25th article in the Mission Times Courier stating “It’s a strong possibility that a Republican could be the odd man out”. The title of the article was “79th District May Be a Race Between Democrats”, which was written by Michael Stetz. What’s even more astonishing is that Mendoza was a true grass roots organization with very little money; his campaign only spent $5820.00. The Democrat Rudy Ramirez spent $140,408.06 for his campaign, and Pat Washington spent $ 30,950.68 for her campaign and Sid Voorakkara spent $188,324.42 and all of them came in behind Mendoza.

Coming on the heels of the sworn testimony taken in the Georgia Administrative Law hearing at which expert witnesses testified under oath as to the indications of forgery in Barack Obama’s putative certificates of live birth, POTUS Write-In Candidate Montgomery Blair Sibley has this day amended his Quo Warranto lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to demand that the Court enforce 18 U.S.C. §3332. That section requires, upon request of a citizen, that the United States Attorney present information concerning such an alleged offense to the grand jury.

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll confirms what other recent surveys have shown: The bump that President Obama received in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death has receded. And amid renewed pessimism about the direction of the country, voters' desire to re-elect the president has reverted to levels seen earlier this spring.

At the 2008 Pi Gamma Mu triennial international convention held in Atlanta, Ga., Eric Knutson was elected by students from colleges and universities across the United States to be the honor society’s “shadow president.” Pi Gamma Mu believes that students and government benefit when students are more involved in democracy. Eric, as shadow president, was given the responsibility to evaluate the new president’s activities and give him policy advice. Originally from Schuyler, Neb., Eric graduated with a B.S. in History, summa cum laude, from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., in May, 2009. He is currently in his second year at the University of Nebraska College of Law. This past summer, he clerked for the office of the Nebraska Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Department.

Notes on Quotes: “What happened to the strong and resolute party of Lincoln? What happened to the courageous, populist party of FDR and Truman? In many ways we have lost our compass and we don’t know if we are coming are going. Where have all the leaders gone?” Lee Iacocca

Things did not look good for George Washington. The year was 1777 during the time of the American Revolution. The Valley Forge winter was harsh with over 2,400 of the troops stationed there dying of disease and hunger. Soldiers were mostly volunteers and often left to take care of matters back home. Armaments and weapons were lacking and food was scarce. Washington remarked that the path to their winter camp at Valley Forge was covered with the blood of troops without boots or clothing.

There is much uncertainty in the world. The current cast of world leader characters, such as Obama want the American people to believe there are no more true enemies in the world. Rather, we should be tolerant of others no matter what flag they carry as much of the problems we see today are the result of the former Presidential administration.

Since consent of the governed is democracy’s guiding principle, how do we involve citizens once again in their government and gain consent of the governed? As we mentioned in our Franklin Press column on Notes on Quotes, we think it is time to establish a President’s Commission on National Goals to get citizens involved in setting goals for the future in areas like the Gulf oil crisis.

Is modern leadership failing? In an age of rapid change leaders use the same unsuccessful strategies over and over again and are surprised when the strategies continue not to work. Our leadership need to study the Petraeus Law of Leadership based on our quote and column recently published in the Franklin Press in Franklin, North Carolina. The Law of Turnaround Leadership involving leaders learning from past mistakes and creating a new workable path is in our opinion the most difficult concept of leadership that effective leaders must master.
