Christie Ann, the owner of a hair salon in Chicago, has begun the Wigs of Joy campaign to allay the crushed confidence of many children and women who are struggling from severe hair loss either due to cancer or alopecia. These devastated individuals find it very difficult indeed to cover up the hair loss as wigs are expensive, especially medical wigs that cost around $150 as they are designed for maximum comfort throughout the day. This fundraiser therefore comes as a boon to all those individuals paying a steep price for the cure of their disease.

Colon cancer, also known as bowel cancer, is one of the more frequently occurring types of cancer with over 140,00 Americans diagnosed every year. This type of cancer refers to tumors in the lower intestine which often develop from polyps. Fortunately, the condition has a very high recovery rate if it is discovered in its early stages. This is why it is highly recommended by health professionals to undergo a colonoscopy once a year for those over the age of fifty, as this is the typical way that colon cancer is detected.

When 47-year-old David Wallace was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera in 2009, he was puzzled by this rare blood cancer. The diagnosis was overwhelming and making snap decisions on selecting a hematologist and course of treatment was challenging. “Frankly, I didn’t know enough about my disease to know where to start,” says Wallace. “I needed information quickly in order to make educated decisions about my treatment; it was an intense period of adjusting to a new norm. To make matters more difficult, I discovered doctors don’t have a standard protocol for treating my disease. Naturally, I went online to research my options. It was difficult to find all of the resources I needed in one place. Four years later, I decided to help other MPN patients and developed a comprehensive, easy to navigate, patient focused website for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms, thus PV Reporter was born.”
