Carrie Kropfl, an entrepreneur from San Clemente, California, invented the Streetubez concept as a way of "yard surfing" that anyone could enjoy with a skateboard. Kropfl developed Streetubez after her children became involved with tarp surfing, a street sport that simulated tube surfing on water. "From a Mom's perspective, the tarps were a total nightmare. But the kids loved the experience of surfing in the streets, so I was determined to develop something that gave the kids this experience, without all the headaches. That's how I came up with Streetubez."

According to Aspen Project Play, children who participate in sports build and maintain bones, joints, and muscles which are healthier, while also controlling their weight. In addition, participation in youth sports helps to prevent or delay a person's development of high blood pressure. The organization found that children who play sports at a young age will continue to do so as they get older, with those 24 years of age being eight times more likely to play sports if they did as a child. Parents need to factor this into their decision as to whether or not to put their child in an organized sport, The Baseball Diamond (thebaseballdiamond.com) reports.
