Staying Healthy: Health Literacy Curriculum and Resource for ESOL
Come learn about how to successfully integrate health literacy into high beginning and low intermediate level Adult ESOL instruction. Increase health literacy awareness among your students and encourage them to make healthy choices in relation to nutrition, preventative health care, accessing health services, and other related issues. This 3-hour session includes an overview of the freely available Staying Healthy curriculum, lots of hands-on activities/resources and time for discussion and idea sharing. Each participant will receive a copy of the Staying Healthy Student and Teacher’s Resource Guide.

Fantastic, Fabulous, and Free Web Resources: Tutor/Teacher In-Service Workshop
Do you know how many free resources are out on the Internet for teachers, tutors, volunteers and students? Knowing how and where to find them can seem like an impossible mission. Come learn about some great resources that are quick & easy to use for learners at all levels and for all subjects! By the end of this session, you'll have terrific web-based tools for your educational toolbox! Please share this with your fellow tutors and teachers. Participate from the comfort of your own home or office. All you need is a computer with speakers and an access to the Internet. How does it work? We will send you a web address (URL) when you register. Approximately 5-10 minutes before the workshop is scheduled to begin, you simply go to that URL, enter your full name, and click "Login" to access the session.

Just-in-Time Tutor Training Workshop
Who Can Become a Tutor? Anyone 18 years of age or older interested in volunteering to tutor an adult in reading, writing and speaking English. Prior teaching experience is not required to become a tutor. What does the Training Teach Me? During the 4 hour JIT workshop, you will learn the basic skills necessary to teach reading, writing & phonics to Basic students or English Speakers of Other Languages (ESL). You will learn how to use computer software to assist you. The training is on a continuous basis and it requires commitment and constant feedback. Tutors will be assigned an adult student in the Upper Pinellas area.

Schedule of Programs: 8:30am - 10:30am Tutor Roundtable: Share ideas and methods with your colleagues. What works for one may work for another. Get some useful feedback and how to work with your challenges. 11am - 1pm New Resources for Tutors: Hands-on training of new materials made available to tutors. Useful Handbook for Students and Tutors at your fingertips and exercises you may find helpful to use with students you think may have learning disabilities. 1:30pm - 3:30pm Professional Development: You don't have to stop at tutoring, share your experiences with other tutors and teach them what you already know. Discover what it takes to become a trainer and how easy it is to get up before a crowd when you are talking about something you love.

Fast Track Reading System: Exploring the Relationship Between Sounds & Syllables
This workshop provides an overview of the Fast Track Reading System, a curriculum developed by the Jacksonville Public Library (JPL) with the support of the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services. This curriculum focuses on using syllable division and syllable types as a way to strengthen the word attack skills of new readers. TABE 101 Workshop
TABE 101 is for all practitioners who will be administering the TABE test and have never been certified by CTB/McGraw Hill. This will be an all-day (7-hour) workshop.
