In popular discourse on addiction, the focus often remains on substance dependency. However, according to Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ), process addictions such as problem gambling (for example, illegal sports betting in the Meadowlands area of NJ) are just as destructive and difficult to escape. An estimated 2-3% of the American population struggles with problem gambling, and millions of others struggle with addictions to behaviors such as food, sex, shopping and gaming.

The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) is a non-profit organization that offers support, treatment and hope to New Jersey residents who struggle with problem gambling. Like any addiction, problem gambling is fundamentally a set of behaviors used as an escape or coping mechanism, even at the expense of relationships, work and health. According to Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ, one of the methods by which problem gamblers can begin to recover is to take a closer look at their relationship with intimacy.

The people at American Children's Society, Inc. have been helping kids for over 20 years. By facilitating car donations, the organization can raise money that is donated to youth charities and families in need. After picking up the donated vehicles, American Children's Society, Inc, services the vehicle to ensure it will be up to resale standards. Once the automobile is in working order, the organization will either sell or donate the car. If they sell the vehicle, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to a charity that benefits children. The organization will also sell the cars to families in need at a price below fair market value. Other vehicles accepted include boats and RVs.

A team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members is serving with Habitat for Humanity of Teller County to renovate an old hotel into nine, affordable housing condos for local families. The group of 11 young adults arrived on November 4th and will be serving in Woodland Park through December 16th.

The Isabella Santos Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Charlotte, North Carolina that fights neuroblastoma and other types of disease. It all began with a little girl named Isabella Santos, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer in 2007. This rare and deadly cancer affects about 750 children every year. Isabella bravely fought the disease, but her battle ended in 2012. She dreamed of a world with no more cancer, and so her loved ones founded this neuroblastoma foundation as a way to help other people fight this illness.
