Alleged Criminals Recruit Denver FBI Agents to Work for Them, Really?

LogoFederal prosecutor Matthew T. Kirsch prosecuted and convicted six information technology executives of the IRP Solutions Corporation on allegations that they were involved in a two-and-a-half-year scheme to induce staffing companies into paying employees they outsourced to IRP. IRP Solutions developed CILC (pronounced "silk") criminal investigations software, and according to court documents, the Department of Homeland Security requested and received a quote for over $100 million dollars for CILC. "Although the primary charge was that the defendants misrepresented their success and prospects to certain staffing companies, the case was presented to the jury on the basis that their software was a phony and a scam," says former federal appeals Judge H. Lee Sarokin, and that "defies reality." Sarokin characterizes the case as "strange" and questions why Kirsch disregarded numerous facts that indicate the executives could not possibly have been involved in criminal activity. One of which was why the IRP executives, in the middle of a criminal scheme as alleged by Kirsch, contacted the head of the Denver division of the FBI to recruit federal agents to come work for their company. "Criminals avoid law enforcement at all costs, not recruit them to come work for them," says Lisa Stewart of A Just Cause.

Law & Order Generation: The Injustice of Indifference

Colorado Defendants Deserve the Same Justice Given to a U.S. Senator

On April 19, 2012, Congressmen Jim Sensenbrenner, John Conyers, Bobby Scott and other members of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security on the Judiciary House of Representatives held a hearing on the wrongful-conviction of U.S. Senator Ted Stevens. Sensenbrenner pointed out in the hearing that prosecutors "won their case through willfully failing to disclose" discovery evidence favorable to Senator Stevens and making misrepresentations to the judge and defense counsel. "If [prosecutors] had complied with their ethical and legal obligations, the jury might not have convicted Senator Stevens," said Sensenbrenner.

Veterans Advocacy: Mind if We Actually Help Some Soldiers? (USJAG)

LogoAmerica once loved the little guy who fought the long odds and won. For those familiar with advocacy and funding on behalf of soldiers and veterans some very salient facets emerge: One of which is that those who benefit most are seldom the regular fighting men and women, the veterans themselves. This is an untold story--or series of stories--that the media has largely failed to tell. The Uniformed Services and Justice Advocacy Group (USJAG) invites the press to remedy this shortfall.

ImageFIRST LA Applauds Recent Affordable Care Act Subsidies

Earlier this year, conservative challenges to the Affordable Care Act led to worries that, should these challenges be upheld in front of the Supreme Court, the entire law as presented by President Obama would be virtually destroyed. ImageFIRST LA, as a provider of healthcare laundry services, applauds the Supreme Court decision to allow insurance subsidies created by Obamacare to be offered in state and federal health care exchanges, as well as marketplaces. This ultimately means continued coverage for Americans everywhere.

Defense Company Turns to Crowdfunding to Further Expansion

LogoContractor and private security activities have become a “mission essential” component of United States and coalition government activities both domestically and abroad. Whistleblower Success for Claudine Q. Homolash

LogoThe Pharmaceutical company Astellas Pharma US, Inc. has agreed to pay the United States a total of $7.3 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by illegally marketing and promoting the drug Mycamine® for pediatric use and to pediatric institutions. The settlement resolves allegations brought in a whistleblower action filed in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in March 2010 under the False Claims Act, which permits private citizens to bring lawsuits alleging violations of the Act on behalf of the United States and to share in any recovery. The settlement resolves claims that, between 2005 and 2010, Astellas knowingly marketed and promoted the sale of Mycamine® for pediatric use, which was not a medically accepted indication and, therefore, not covered by federal health care programs. During this timeframe, the FDA approved Mycamine® to treat adult patients suffering from serious and invasive infections caused by the fungus Candida, including infections in the esophagus, the blood and the abdomen, and to prevent Candida infections in adults undergoing stem cell transplants. Up until June 2013, however, Mycamine® was not approved to treat pediatric patients for any use.
